Recently we finished our study of Ephesians chapter 2 in which the apostle Paul explains the grand purpose of God in Christ from chapter 1, “as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth in him.” (Ephesians 1:10, ESV). And to explain more, in chapter 2, Paul goes on to give two arguments. First, how a person is made alive together with Christ and how this salvation from sin and death is by grace through faith so that God displays the riches of His grace through us, His continuing workmanship, in the ages to come. And now that salvation by grace is made known, Paul proceeds to his second argument, beginning with the fundamental division between Jew and Gentile. God is uniting all things into one body through the cross of Christ (the Son), thereby making peace between all peoples by giving them access in One Spirit to the Father and building them into a holy temple established on one foundation (the apostles and prophets) with Christ Jesus being the cornerstone. Grace is another word for gift and God’s gift, His generosity even, is unmatched in the entire universe. Praise God for what He has given and what He will continue to Give to those who have received so much by faith alone!
